History

At the 14 November 1876 General Assembly the Overture relative to the formation of a new Presbytery in the District of the Goulburn was taken up. It recommended the congregations of St. Andrew’s Church, Kilmore; St. George’s Church, Kilmore; together with the congregations at Murchison and Dargalong, Seymour and Mangalore, Longwood, Euroa, and Duck Ponds, Yea and Alexandra, and Nagambie, be disjoined from the Presbytery of Melbourne and incorporated in this new Presbytery. Also that the congregations at Heathcote, Mooroopna, Toolamba and Girgarre, Rushworth and Whroo, be disjoined from the Presbytery of Castlemaine and attached to the new Presbytery, and that the Congregation at Mansfield be disjoined from the Presbytery of Beechworth, and placed under the jurisdiction of the new Presbytery. It was afterwards agreed that the Presbytery should be designated the Presbytery of Seymour. At the General Assembly meeting of 8 Nov 1892 the Presbytery of Seymour, consisting of Alexandra, Broadford, Euroa, Kyabram, Mansfield, Maroopna, Nathalia, North Moira, Numurkah, Seymour, Shepparton, Tatura and Yea, was renamed the "Presbytery of Goulburn Valley" and the seat of the Presbytery moved to Shepparton.
