Discussions on setting up a Mission to the Chinese on the Victorian goldfields began in 1858.The Mission to the Chinese was first established in 1860 with the General Assembly approving the formation of the first mission at Ballaarat.
Paul Young was a Chinese missionary based in Bairnsdale. During his time he built and donated both a church and mission hall and a home for destitute Chinese in 1902. Photos of each are included in cardboard frames.
Paul reported to John Tong Wai (Tongway) in Ballarat East and Paul's report of June 1906 in chinese characters was translated into English and John has included this report in a letter to Mrs Fraser.
The Messenger dated 19 Nov 1909 p739 includes a photo of Paul Young and his history in his obituary. (Copy not included).
