History
At the General Assembly meeting on 4 May 1860 the Presbytery of Beechworth was created with the detachment of the Albury, Chiltern and Beechworth congregations from the Presbytery of Melbourne.
At the General Assembly April 1959 meeting, the renaming of the Presbytery of Beechworth to the Presbytery of North East was approved. This was first raised as an overture in 1951. At the time the presbytery consisted of Beechworth, Benalla, Chiltern-Rutherglen, Corryong, Lake Rowan, Myrtleford-Bright, Tallangatta, Wangaratta, Wodonga, Yarrawonga and Upper Kiewa United.
The new Presbytery of North East consisted of the congregations of Beechworth, Benalla, Corryong, Lake Rowan, Mytrleford-Bright, Tallangatta, Upper Kiewa United, Wangaratta, Wodonga, Kergunyah and Yarrawonga.
