History

In 1920 the State Assembly decided to subdivide the then two metropolitan Presbyteries in four, viz., the Presbyteries of Melbourne North, Melbourne East, Melbourne South and Melbourne West.

The Presbytery of Melbourne East first appears in the Blue book of 1921. It consisted of the congregations of Armadale, Burnley, Carlton—St. Andrew’s, Carlton-Erskine, North Carlton, Cairns Memorial, Gardiner, Malvern, Malvern East, Murrumbeena, Oakleigh, Prahran, Richmond, Scots’ Church, South Yarra, Toorak, and Springvale.

1n 2022 the Presbytery of Melbourne East looked after the congregations of Arabic, Armadale, Auburn (Chalmers), Burwood Community, Camberwell, Canterbury, Caulfield-Elwood, Deaf, Gardenvale East, Hawthorn, Korean, Malvern, South Yarra, St Kilda/Balaclava.
